Health topic is born with the development of human society. As the materialized carrier of human health consciousness, health communication maintains a historical mission to promote and keep human beings out of danger and disease. The research on health communication encourages the public to use and pay more attention to health information. Health communication started from America and it is now mature and perfect involved in journalism, sociology, medicine and so on. It provides a solid theoretical basis and a platform for Chinese research on health communication. Considering its unique characteristics, Internet has become an important way to spread the health information. The Huffington Post is one of the representative of America emerging online media. Called itself the First Internet Newspaper, the Huffington Post is the most influential news blog site in the US. It values and absorbs the essence of the traditional news and attempts to show readers the events in a different way, helps readers get out of the limitations of their political views, that leads the public discussion of the site to a rational depth and diversified tones of voice. Due to the authority of the Huffington Post as a public media, its health papers will make a contribution to the public concern on health topics and inspire us how to make excellent health news reports in China today. The dissertation analyses the texts of health news reports, sums up the advantages and disadvantages of the health news reports and summarizes the developing trend of the health news reports on the Huffington Post. Finally, the dissertation puts forward strategies to improve the spread of the network health information in China.The dissertation is divided into five chapters. The first chapter reviews the background and research status of health communication, and introduces the research objects, methods, values and innovation points on the research. The second chapter defines the concept of health communication, explains the reason for choosing the doctor-patient relationship as keywords, and discusses the development status of health communication in the United States. Selecting the doctor-patient relationship as keywords, the third chapter samples and analyses the texts and describes the genre, language features of health news on the Huffington Post. According to the characteristics and the existing problems of the health news reports, the fourth chapter analyses the causes of the features in health news reports, points out the innovations and shortcomings on the Huffington Post and enlightens Chinese network media in four ways:the accuracy of health information, the editors’ health literacy, optimizing for Search Engines, and enhancing the network health information interaction. These may improve the health communication online in China. Looking backward to the first four chapters, the last chapter tells the limitation of the research and the insufficiency of the methods.
