With the development of space remote sensing technology, the volume of space remote sensing data increases rapidly. So, the huge increasing in the volume of image data brings the storage and transmission problems. In order to get the higher compression quality of multispectral remote sensing image, which taken the JPEG2000 as the standard, used FPGA and special-purpose compression chip ADV212 to realize the remote sensing image compression system is proposed.First,the JPEG2000 standard was introduced as a whole, including the background,constitution,characteristics,framework and the key technology. Second, the features and theory of operation of ADV202 were described. In order to get the higher compression quality of multispectral remote sensing image, which taken the JPEG2000 as the standard, used FPGA and special-purpose compression chip ADV202 to realize the remote sensing image compression system is proposed. In which FPGA was the main control chip. The system realized the image data's input, the compression stream's output, the image's pretreatment as well as to control the ADV202 chip's working pattern through FPGA. The SRAM carried on the storage space of the high real-time compression system. We design the high speed multi-channel date acquisition system based on PCI BUS to get the experiment result. The result of experimentation proved that the image encoding system was good.This system featured the flexile structure and can use the host software to configure conveniently JPEG2000 code parameters. The system supports several options for performing the rate-control algorithm and progression styles. This system could satisfy the request of different application.
