Image acquisition system has a huge range of demand and applications in terms of military and civilian aspects, and it is of great importance to study on image acquisition system. With the great improvement of integrated circuit design technology and the level of manufacturing process in recent years, CMOS image sensor technology has also developed rapidly. Now the CMOS sensor has closely reached the performance of mature CCD in terms of SNR (Signal Noise Ratio), light sensitivity and dynamic range. CMOS image sensor has many advantages, such as high integration, relatively low power consumption and cost, high speed and radiation protection capability, and the driving circuit of CMOS image sensor is relatively simple. Therefore, CMOS image sensor is becoming more and more important in the fields of digital imaging. The basic structure composition and working principle of CMOS image sensor are analyzed in this paper firstly, then the CMOS image sensor is compared with CCD image sensor in various aspects, and the advantage of CMOS image sensor is proved. The scheme design of high-resolution imaging system based on CMOS image sensor is completed with Aptina MT9J003 CMOS image sensor as imaging core, and Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA as controller chip. The performance and technical characteristics of MT9J003 are detailedly expatiated, and the system timing circuit is designed with Verilog HDL, so as to realize the control function of CMOS image sensor. The image from the sensor is transferred via USB interface, using Cypress CY7C68013 as USB chip, and the USB firmware program is completed in KeilC.The experimental results indicate that this system can work stably, and the image is clear and stable. Besides, the power consumption is low and the system can be controlled flexibly. In a word, the system designed here has a wide application foreground.
