With the development of programmable logic device manufacturing, more programmable logic units can be integrated in a smaller chip, thus it is possible to realize the embedded system designs in a single chip. System on a Programmable Chip(SOPC), which is based on Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA), is an important application of programmable device in the embedded system.SOPC system is reductable, upgradeable, scalable, programmable, and has better scalability and flexibility than System on a Chip(SOC) design which takes Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) as the physical carrier.In this dissertation, hardware and software co-design technology and IP core reuse technology are studied in the first place, both of which are involved in the development of SOPC system design. Then, on that basis, a general network video platform is introduced. The platform can receive multimedia data from the Ethernet, process them, and then transfer them to terminal equipment for image display via digital video interface and sound play via the audio interface. The dissertation includes the following aspects:1. Research into SOPC technology and new system design method, and the usage of hardware and software co-design to design the present system;2. Research into digital video display protocol, image format, AC-link protocol, PCM audio formats and so on;3. Design of Video Controller IP core and Audio Controller IP core, and the usage of custom IP core to complete the construction of hardware platform;4. Design of drivers of video controller and audio playback so as to provides interface for application program;5. The usage of microkernel operating system Xilkernel, provided by Xilinx, to build software structure, and the development of applications based on this structure.6. The development of test software which is used to implement the function of data transceiver and to test network multimedia platform in PC.
