Inquiry teaching under the guidance of constructivist theory is a new model of teaching. Inquiry teaching can inspire students' initiative to explore issues, and the self - construction of knowledge is also formed through the process of inquiry learning. The basic computer course based on teaching of inquiry teaching is helpful not only to cultivate students' autonomous learning abilities, independent learning abilities and lifelong learning abilities, but also to cultivate students' information literacy .This paper adopts the methods of literature and questionnaire survey, and the students of Changjiang Normal College have been carried on the questionnaire survey in the autumn period of 2009. The survey found that the information literacy possessed by the students of Changjiang Normal College is obviously deficient, most of the students are lack of information consciousness, and they won't use computer to obtain useful information; most of the students have not enough information ability which causes they can not make a courseware or install a software; another problem is the lack of the basic information ethics, the students have not the habit of adding a tag when using another person's achievement, and know less about computer virus and computer crime.This paper put forward in view of adopting the inquiry teaching in the basic computer course of university based on the result of the investigation, and the students majored in chemical education on Grade 2010 of Changjiang Normal College are taught in the method of inquiry teaching as an experiment in 2010. After the experiment, the students are carried on a questionnaire survey. The survey found that the students' information literacy has a great advance, which explains the inquiry teaching in college computer course is helpful to the cultivation of students' information literacy.
