With the continuous improvement of living conditions in China, Chinese people are getting more concerned about their health. The quality of hospital service has a lot to do with every patient's benefit. Ward call system is the major means of connecting nurses and patients. It can reflect the quality of the hospital service.A good ward call system can help reducing patients' complains.Nowadays, most hospitals have equipped with a ward call system. Ward call system based on wired communication has its advantages. But some departments of a hospital have to increase the number of ward beds dynamically. Sometimes patients have to sit in the bench in the corridor to take infusion. Wired ward call system cannot deal with such situation.In this paper a wireless ward call system based on ZigBee is discussed. It can serve as an extension of the widely used wired ward call systems.In this paper, based on a ward call system, ZigBee protocol stack is discussed in detail. And a case study of using ZigBee in a real project is presented. The case study is based on a ZigBee development platform made up of a CC2430 chip and Z-Stack protocol stack.
