Investigation outcomes are the detailed description of the stratum, and the variety of soil parameter have the obvious regional characteristic. So, for the given region, every geotechnical engineering investigation data is the important data source to understand the behaviours of the stratum. But, most investigation outcomes are always be single saved in one reconnaissance enterprise or unit now. They can't be saved as a uniform form in view of region. This situation results in great difficulties in data sharing and reusable. For the reason to avoid status mentioned, we should develop a database system. The system can not only bring about the data computerized management,but also maximize the use of the data.It is a basic data platform for the data use in special subject, management and decision support field.Based on the investigation result data of the Water Environment Comprehensive Treatment Engineering in northern Dian Lake, this paper put forward to develop a universal geotechnical investigation database system by using GIS technology. First, it has made a detailed analysis for the data of geotechnical investigation domain. Then, on the basis of spatial data management theory, the database is designed and founded. At last, with the use of ArcGIS Engine and programming language C#. NET, the system is developed. The main studies in this paper include the following contents:(1) The fundamental theories and means of spatial data management;(2) Design of the Geodatabase model, as the logical data model for the universal geotechnical engineering investigation database;(3)Processing, handling and integration the engineering investigation data, building the database by make use of ArcSDE and SQL Server technology;(4) Development of database system, which has friendly interactive interface, and the main functions are applied.Generally speaking, the research and development of GIS-Based universal geotechnical engineering investigation database system, it has made a discuss to get a platform to efficiently manage and use investigation data. The system's purpose is to share the information,to support decision-making on national basic facilities planning,construction and management, to offer basic materials for regional geological research.
