On The Modern Book Collector-Li Shengduo

Li Shengduo was born in a book-collecting family. With the influence of the family,he was very fond of collecting books, interested in Directory Study and Emendation Study , and was good at identifying books as a famous modern bibliophile. He has been going in for politics and dedicated himself to collecting books in all parts of China, even in Japan, Europe and so on. According to Zhang Yu fan in Beijing University Library, the old books of Muxixuan in the library falls into about 9000, and its number up to about 5,000.The thesis is around the topic——the modern book collector Li Sheng duo. It mainly explores his collecting channels and characteristics, analyzes his colophons and content, and shows his Science Edition and his contribution and influence upon the later generations. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first one introduces Li Shengduo, including his family, life and works.The second one analyzes Li Sheng duo's book-collecting activities including his exchange activities with other scholars, his book-collecting channels, its characteristics, and shows the characteristics and values of Li's book–collecting activities.The third one discusses Li Shengduo's research on his collection. The books collected by Li Shengduo have a large amount, high quality, and extensive content, which is the foundation of his research on Edition Study, Directory Study and Emendation Study. This part aims at his identification of book-collecting edition, his Edition Study and his accomplishment in emendation.The fourth part shows that Li Shengduo's book-collecting career has made contribution to and has great influence upon the later generations. It also explores his role in preserving the motherland cultural heritage, promoting cultural advancement, and his deficiency and enlightment offered to us.
