Blowing 10,000 Books To Study

Gao Xie (1879-1958), a famous cultural celebrity of Shanghai , and he had collected more than 300, 000 volumes books in all his life, especially devoted his mind to the Book of Songs. Recently, there are more studies on his social activities than his book collecting activities. According to the literature of the Book of Songs which were held by the library of Fudan University, this paper makes a study on Gao Xie's book collecting activities.Apart from the introduction and the epilogue, the paper is divided into 5 chapters. The first chapter is a general introduction about Gao Xie's family and life. The second chapter is about the measures of collecting the books, including buying books,copying books,accepting the devoted books. The third chapter is about the characteristic of the Chuiwan ancient book-collection building, including the special-store of the Book of Songs,living annotations,extraordinary signet of the collection books. The fourth chapter is about the dispersal of the collection, including the war,donation,poverty. The last chapter pays attention to the Gao Xie's thoughts for the collecting books.Based on the achieved materials, the paper pays much attention to the detailed research about the growth and close of Chuiwan ancient book-collection building, in order to to illustrate what it had confronted in history, and to perceive the same fate of the bibliophiles.
