ERP, in short of Enterprise Resource Planning, is a management platform based on information technology to provide decision-making and operation tools for enterprise and its staffs under the instruction of systematic management theory. ERP system, integrated with both information technology and advanced management theory, becomes an operating mode of modern enterprise, reflecting demands of the era on enterprise resource reasonable distribution to create maximum social fortune. It therefore becomes the foundation of enterprise's existing and development in the information era. It is proved by practice that information technology is playing a more and more important role in the managing level of enterprise. Enterprise informationization is the necessary way to the development of enterprise. The printing industry has characters such as short producing cycle, various product category, complicated producing procedure and so on. As a result, to deal with various data, to share information both inside and outside of enterprise, the deployment of ERP system is necessary. By combining information technology with management technology, enterprise can integrate its inside and outside resource to improve operation efficiency and economic benefits.This paper is based on the application of ERP in a Chinese enterprise. By the implementation of ERP project, the enterprise solved the problems coming from both outside competition and internal cooperation.ERP system mentioned in the paper adopts Client/Server structure. It takes the order as a masterstroke and technical requisition as a core in its operation flow. ERP regulates work flow for each function. By data digging and processing, it provides decision-maker of enterprise with necessary information and therefore becomes an information tool for enterprise operation.This paper, based on introducing ERP basic technical points as well as characteristics of printing industry, analyzes the requirements of certain enterprise for ERP system, including general requirements, network and hardware platform requirements, functional requirements and non functional requirements. On the basis of requirement analysis, it tells contents about system design, including the division of each function module, the analysis of relations between each module and the detailed design of work flow of each module. It finally tells the application of ERP system in the certain enterprise. By contrast the influence to the enterprise before and after taking ERP, it tells the benefits that ERP brought to the enterprise and the meaning of further application extension. By the implementation of this project, the enterprise has reached its goal expected. All the departments of the enterprise started to use the ERP system. The integrity and timely update of the data can be guaranteed, In addition to this, deep data digging is made to provide the decision-maker with more valuable data for reference. It also brought reference value to related enterprises in the industry. When an enterprise extends its scale to a certain degree and the traditional management method can't meet its requirement, ERP system works and shows its magic power in solving problems.
