Network Fault Analyzer (NFA), which is designed to test, locate, and manage the network, is applied to many occasions such as the construction, maintenance and analysis of networks. It's becoming a better solution of field testing for network faults.From the programme of inventing a such instrument, this paper discuss something highly connected with embedded hardware and circuit for net listen. With dual Ethernet and module for data frame transmission, realizing net listening.Following are in this thesis:1.Function analysis for the network fault detector, give out its design of its hardware. Select embedded processor as core of this system. On account of net listening, giving the plan of doing it with FPGA. Accomplishing net listening at 10Mbps/100Mbps, both supporting full and half duplex.2.Succeed in designing the minimal system with embedded system as its core, the peripheral circuit, such as Ethernet, human-machine interface, circuit for both net listening & CPU interface and FPGA & peripheral circuit.3.Module of transmission for net listening is done for the special function of net listening, and analyzing its design. Checking the MAC destination address of data frame in module of transmission, and when the address is this machine's address, give up to send. A buffer which is designed between MAC and module of transmission deals with the collision in full duplex.4.Debugging this hardware system, and testing the basic function of transmission module, with result which successfully meets the requirement.
