The automatic cutting production line was used to process the roll metal material into sheets of certain length, and then punch the sheets into shapes. It could improve the accuracy of the product processing, the efficiency of the manufacturing, and the automation of the production line effectively. It was suit for large-scale production, so would to be with a wide application prospects.The PLC control system for the automatic cutting production line was designed in this paper. The main work was as follows.Firstly, the components and the principle of the automatic cutting production line were introduced. It was composed of uncoiler, feeder and puncher. The products could be uncoil automatically by the uncoiler which was drove by frequency converter. Also precise fixed-length feeding could be realized by the feeder which was drove by servo motor. The sheets were punched into shapes by the puncher. They run harmony under the control of the PLC.Secondly, the control system was designed according to the technical process of the production line. The hardware such as PLC, frequency converter, servo driver/servo motor, touch panel and so on was selected. The hookup of PLC to inverter, PLC to servo driver was designed, also the parameters setting of the inverter and the servo driver were illustrated in details.Thirdly, the program mainly consisting of the touch panel screen and the PLC control program, was designed according to the process requirement of the system. The touch panel screen was used to set the parameter and monitor the operation. Several primary algorithms, such as the transform between the length and the pulse number and that between the feeding speed and the pulse frequency were introduced. Also the programs such as cam switch signal filtration, frequency converter operation, servo control and other key segments were illustrated in details.Finally, the control system was debugged. The feeding length was set on the touch panel. According to the feeding length, PLC calculated the pulse number, sent the pulses to the servo driver, and controlled the movement of the servo motor. As a result, precise positioning could be realized.The system has been put into use for some time. It was proved that the control system fully displayed its advantages such as high precision, rapid response and smooth operation and so on. It ensured an efficient, high-precision feeder, and its accuracy could be up to 1m±0.01mm, fully met the requirement.
