China Newsweek Cover Story

In this thesis, the approaches such as content analysis, sampling statistics, literature study were extensively utilized. I describe the newsweekly and the definition, development history, functions of its cover stories.Based on this, China news weekly and Sanlan life weekly were taken as two examples of modern China to analysis the issue selection and scheme, Narrative, images and layout design in detail then. And I summary the common features of outstanding cover stories and give the practical principles.In the end, based on the current situation of news weekly at home and the trends of the international news media, the suggestions to the further development of newsweekly in China were conceived.This thesis was composed of six chapters. In the introduction section, the definition of news weekly and cover story with its contents and source. The first chapter was divided into three parts:in the first part, I describe the development history of newsweekly in China; In the second part, the features, characteristics and their indispensable functions was discussed in detail; In the third part, I the China news weekly and Sanlan live weekly were described as the representative examples of modern outstanding newsweekly in modern China. The second chapter was composed of three parts too.In the first part, the issue selection tendency and magazine orientation of the two examples was analyzed based on the statistics data of the last three years.In the second part, I analyzed the functions of cover story through dozens of cover stories selected from the two magazines during the same epoch as previously described. In the third part, I mainly discuss the methods of cover story selection and scheme making, manifested by its relatively strong practicability. The third chapter was divided into two parts.The narration of cover stories was mainly discussed in this chapter. In the first part, from the angle of narration theories, I analyzed the angle selection of narration of cover stories;in the second part, based on the broad analysis data of the two magazines, I summarized the features of outstanding narrative reports.The fourth chapter was focused on the cover story's images and layout design in detail and was divided into two parts.The images and layout design of cover and contents of news weekly and their characteristics were described respectively. In the fifth chapter, from the three angles: "feature" is wealth, the combination of theory and practices, precautions be prepared, I make suggestions to the development of cover story in our country. The fifth chapter is a epilog, it was the conclusion of the whole thesis and my visions for the future.
