Since 2013,telling China’s stories well has become a hot topic in the field of international communication and practice,and documentaries are one of the important tools for the country to carry out foreign cultural communication,the purpose of this paper is to study how to tell China’s stories well in the form of documentary to present a positive national image.Starting from the perspective of others and using text analysis as the main research method,this paper analyzes the construction path,background reasons and image expression techniques of Wood’s "China series of works",and thus summarizes Wood’s shooting concepts and methods.The main body of this paper is divided into five parts.On the basis of analyzing the research background,the introduction puts forward the significance of this research topic:how to better tell China’s stories with the help of documentaries.First,documentaries are ideal carriers to disseminate national images and provide an effective way to promote cultural exchanges and communication.Secondly,it is helpful to find out the common problems of Chinese documentaries to go on abroad,on the basis of summarizing the research results at home and abroad,this paper sorts out the core concepts of national image,Wood’s "China series",China’s stories,and the perspective of the others.The theoretical basis of telling China’s stories well from the perspective of others is the cultural discounting effect and cultural proximity in intercultural communication.The first chapter mainly based on the framework of text analysis,from three aspects of politics,economy,culture,respectively explained the construction path of "Wood’s" perspective.The second chapter from the objective conditions of the reality of the formation of the "Wood" vision construction path.The third chapter analyzes the presentation techniques of documentary based on visual,auditory and narrative techniques.The fourth chapter is the enlightenment brought by Wood’s style of telling China stories,and the conclusion is as follows: "Bring" correctly,balancing content and form;The path of "breaking the circle",balancing history and the present;Optimize media alliance,balance supply and demand.
