Foreign Digital Preservation System Infrastructure And Enlightenment

Digital information resource has gradually become the important object of information production, dissemination and utilization. A problem on large-scale storage and long-term preservation of digital resource is becoming an obstacle to development of digital library and other digital preservation systems. How to successfully resolve this problem, which has aroused worldwide concern. Therefore, hundreds of long-term preservation of digital resource projects emerged one after another in the world especially foreign countries. As the core of long-term preservation projects, developing digital preservation system should be research key without doubt. Moreover, a easy change, instability, depending on software and hardware environment and short life of digital resource pose a serious threat to its authenticity, integrity, reliability, long-term usability and intelligibility. Therefore, realistic demand of long-term preservation of digital resource is the main driving force of designing and developing digital preservation system. However, developing digital preservation system is a large-scale software engineering, which needs high cost, long cycle and difficulty maintenance. How to achieve digital preservation system is an important area of digital preservation research.In preface, the concept, characteristics of digital preservation system and significance of designing and developing system are summarized at first. Then, the thesis investigates and analyzes research status of domestic and foreign from theoretical and practical aspects separately. At last, the main content of research and innovation are listed.The second section of paper interprets and analyzes OAIS comprehensively from functional model and information model aspects. As reference standard of digital preservation system, OAIS includes six modules, which are ingest, digital preservation, data management, system management, preservation planning and digital access. Then, the flow of data items among the OAIS functional entities is diagrammed in this subsection.The third section of paper analyzes three typical systems which are more compatible to the OAIS model and have common characteristics of digital preservation system. The three systems are respectively DSpace system, LOCKSS system, DIAS system. This subsection discusses in details about the origin and implementation of these systems in order to summarize the common and regular characteristics in system designing and implantation.Finally, based on analyzing reference standard of digital preservation system and typical digital preservation system in foreign, the paper puts forth experience and inspiration about developing digital preservation system of foreign organizations, which apply OAIS reference model. All these provide useful reference for designing and realizing of domestic digital preservation system.
