Following the development of space technology, CCSDS suggests a high flexible data handling system (advance orbit system) which can meets the data transfer requirement of complex space mission. AOS receives data from payload and space craft and generates a single data flow. It can be used in space-space or space-ground communication and data handling system. AOS can handle different users with different requirements. By scheduling virtual channels, AOS generates a single data flow to transfer data which includes science data,audio,video,p icture,telemetry and telecommand. AOS supports high flexible multiplexing mechanisms,complete error checking and recorrecting methods. All these mechinisms and methods make AOS effective and reliable.Moderm space projects want shorter research time, lower project cost and more missions. All this makes higher requirement on the design of on board multiplexer. Firstly, in order to shorten the project time and lower the cost, the on board multiplexer should be flexible and can be changed easily. Secondly, for a specific space project, the on board multiplexer should transfer data effectively in different mission phases. Based on the two requirements mentioned above, this paper design a reconfigurable multiplexer by using the AOS. This multiplexer has two features. The first one is that it supports four types of services. The multiplexer can choose different service combination for different space projects. The second feature is that it is compatible for different scheaduling methods and multiplexing mechanisms. In addition to choosing different scheaduling methods and multiplexing mechanisms for different space projects, we also can change scheaduling method and multiplexing mechanism for different mission phases accroding to the change of all data sources.Tests on the FPGA development board shows that the multiplexer can work correctly. The data transfer rate is 240Mbps.
