With the development of satellite communication system, payloads such as panchromatic cameras and digital videos that provide large amount of high-speed real-time data are applied on all sorts of satellite platforms, which makes it more and more important for the on-board data handling system to store and process data with high speed. New demands for data transferring also require high rate multiplexer which takes charge of multiplexing and transmitting of payloads data to work more efficient and flexible. This paper increases hardware resource utilization by using bi-level multiplexing method, adding data-storing scheduling into high rate multiplexing, simplifying the design complexity of writing data into store module and reading data from store module to high rate multiplexer, and combining real-time transmitting and non real-time retrieving together.The Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) Advanced Orbiting Systems (AOS) report is applied to this kind of requirement above. Bi-level multiplexing strategy and virtual channel scheduling are suggested and a real-time and replayed high-rate bi-level multiplexer chip is designed based on FPGA, with transmission rate of 40Mbps. A demo system including asynchronous data sources, high-rate bi-level multiplexer, data reception equipment is built to validate the function of the multiplexer.The result of experiment indicates that real-time and replayed high-rate bi-level multiplexer integrates the schedule of payload data storing and virtual channel scheduling,and multiplexes two channels asynchronous data rightly. The output data format is according to the CCSDS AOS standard. The results are consistent with the theories.The research in this program will provide idea for the integration of critical equipments in aerospace projects and has great meaning for the development of light, flexible and efficient on-board data handling equipments in the future spaceflight projects.
