The rapid development of information technology made the important changes of the services and the social functions of library. The Academic Library, as the pillar of national teaching and research, their development level can represent the library development level of a country. Because of the extensive application of information technology, information services have become the main form of library services. Since China Academic Library information service developed late, there are still many deficiencies. Therefore, we selected 10 Chinese Academic libraries and 10 American Academic Libraries, and compared the differences between them from their information services. We also summarized the development experience of American Libraries, in order to promote our country academic library information services.Because of the application of information technology services to the library work, the library information service developed rapidly. The author overviewed the theory of information services, and introduced information services, library website and library information services. Library Information Services experienced online catalog, online searching, reference, document delivery and distance education. And the author also detailed introduced the service content and function.Then, the author introduced the twenty Academic Libraries and determined the comparative context and the specific contents. The author compared Chinese and American Academic Library from the interactive information services, personalized services, information resources, special services and social services. We detailed introduced their development status and compared them. Thus we learned the characteristics and advantages of American Academic Library, and analyzed the inadequacies of our Academic Library.After comparative analysis, learning from the development experience of the United States, we put forward the development proposals for our Academic Library. From the service concept, we should deepen the "people-oriented" idea and advance personalized service system; we should strengthen the Virtual Reference Service from the four aspects: Using the real-time consultative software, paying attention to the Subject Librarian services, strengthen the face-to-face consultation and Universities Joint Advisory. We should also strengthen the information library building and organization and integration of the information resources. In addition, we have to focus on the development of social services, special services and learning support services system to enhance the quality of society.
