With the development of modern computer technology, network communication technology and embedded system, more and more remote monitoring systems with different function have been applied to various areas of the national economy, of which the real-time communication and reliability are getting better and better. However, compared with wireless networking monitoring system, the traditional wired network monitoring system has several obvious disadvantages, such as higher construction cost, limited communication coverage and difficulty of maintenance. Therefore, how to use new technology of embedded system and wireless communication network to establish a highly efficient remote monitoring system has became a focus of attention.Nowadays, a more efficient way of data transmission has been brought about to remote monitoring system due to the rapid development of GPRS networking, which features wider network coverage, higher transmission speed and lower construction cost and consequently makes it possible to establish a distributed monitoring system characterizing in decentralized collection points, greater number of participants and higher level of real-time communication. Taking reference of basic theory of GPRS system and existing GPRS techniques, The objective of the paper is to propose a solution for a remote network system monitoring the rainfall along transportation way by taking reference of basic theory of GPRS system and introducing the newest type of ARM embedded platform technology into the existing GRPS technology.In terms of study content, the main body of this paper can be divided into following parts:Firstly, study of rainfall monitoring system -- analyze its demand characteristics and then pick out the accordingly most appropriate networking solution to establish the distributed remote monitoring system.Secondly, hardware design for data transmission units-- take GPRS module and the newest type of ARM inner processor as the core to establish data sender and receiver.Thirdly, software design for data sender and receiver -- transplant a light protocol stack to the processor so that realize TCP/IP protocol function required by GPRS data transmission.Finally, propose suggestion for further development and amelioration of the designed system for reference.
