Tv Investigative Reports, Narrative Study

At the beginning of the 21st century, Narratology was introduced into journalism and communication in China. It became a cross-subject study, which provided journalism and communication with new methods, new perspectives, new contents, and new points of view. As a new study, it has many shortages, which needs further study and improvement. TV investigative reporting is an important type of in-depth reporting with the unique narrative characteristics. So far there is a little study on TV investigative reporting, and even less by using theories of narrative.This paper studied on TV investigative reporting in terms of narratology. The narrative analysis, illustration method and sampling investigation were applied to researches. Its particular narrative characteristics in narrative contents, narrative sign system, narrative strategies, narrative context and narrative acceptance were summarized by analyzing the typical examples in our country, especially CCTV News Probe.The main contributions of this paper are as fellows:Firstly, TV investigative reporting was studied in the view of narratology. Some topics were discussed such as narrative content and rules, narrative perspective, narrative types and characteristics, narrative time and space, narrative structure, narrative functions, limitations and advantages of many kinds of narrative signs. The objectivity, reality, depth and range of cognition and reliability were evaluated in terms of narratology. The production mechanism and process of TV investigative reporting were expatiated by researching the relations among cultural context, narrator and narrative acceptance.Secondly, the studies exceeded the limitation of the narratology researches. The main characteristics of narrative in TV investigative reporting were studied systematically, including the inside and outside of narrative texts , the essence and form of expressions and those of narrative contents.Finally, the studies enriched the narratology researches, especially at narrative character, narrative environment, narrative space, narrative context, narrative acceptance, discourse types and so on.The studies have theoretical and practical values. They have not only overcome some limitations of journalism and narratology, but also are helpful to the practices of TV investigative reporting.
