Narrative Research On TV Talk Show Program In China

TV talk show program in China takes the Dragon TV station's "Eastern On Live" in 1995 as a beginning, and during the period of more than ten years development, its program theme and form has being changed. At the end of the 90's, the heat waves of the TV Talk Show gradually takes off, Some classical programs remained after be chosen by market and the conversation program presents in certain fixed and steady state.TV Talk Show research in China mainly concentrates on its transmission effect, the program's artistic form, and the seeing and hearing element. However, there exist few research achievements involving narrating theory, the TV narration is still worthy of continuing study. Narrative is a kind of word expression, which nearly has the history as long as human being's, but the narrative study is still a young discipline. The research significance of TV conversation program lies in that on the one hand, the introduction of narrating study bring new perspective and construction rule to the TV Talk Show; on the other hand, TV Talk Show, as a narrative text, enriches the narrating study theory. The thesis takes two chapters discussing about the narrator and what elements act as the narrator's angle of view, and takes another two chapters discussing about the narrating situation from narrative time and narrative space. These four chapters can be concluded in the research of the narrative words. One chapter specially aims at the function of metaphor as a way of narration in TV Talk Show; the last chapter discusses about the pattern of acception, such as the intention and the significance of acception from the perspective of the audience. Through deciphering TV Talk Show, the writer tries to reveal how the narrative elements which have narrative functions in TV Talk Show narrate their narrative purposes.TV Talk Show has five kinds of narrators, who take charge of narrative behaviors respectively. Welcome guest presents as the first person narrator who exists by the self-image. He or she always appears as the one who actually has experienced the event. The world where the event he or she has experienced exists is the world of narration. And then his first person tone brings the narrative receivers sense of trust; The host is a special narrator who embodies the effect of the cooperation in TV field which includes multi-type of work. He or she is the outside form of the creative main body, and plays the role of guiding the narrative behaviors and controlling the narrative rhythm.Technical medium such as the big-screen provides us with third person narrator who records outside but narrats inside; TV words finish the narration depending on the cooperation of the TV image and voice. They play their roles respectively and corporately bring narration, control, combination, transmition, and authentication into success.The unification of the narrative angle of view and narrator manifests the standpoint of the narrative behavior, the narrative idea and the manner.The establishment of the narrative perspective ensures the width of the narrative information and the depth of the conversation based on the selection of certain perspective.There are three kinds of narrative perspectives: the intrinsic angle of view that the host presents as the first person; the host's flexible angle of view, as well as the external angle of view consisting of the TV language description.TV Talk Show involves in four kinds of time. And narrative time research includes the study of succession, time curve, as well as frequency research. It is one of the important skills which make the TV conversation program full of colors.As for the topic establishment of the conversation program, the selection of the title, the building of the narrative atmosphere, and the spaces of program ending,metaphor has positive meanings. The metaphor to TV talk show topic establishment, the title selection, the narrative atmosphere builds as well as the program ending remains all has the positive significance in vain.In the study process of the TV Talk Show's pattern of narration, various receivers decides different intentions and meanings of their acception. Some expects piling up information during the narration; some aims at pursuing the psychological regulation. And some others want to appreciate from other's experiences. Based on this point, the effects of the TV Talk Show on receivers are not the same.However, one point should be clear that is the essence of narration is exactly the narrative materials or the acception of information and narrator's intention being transmitted. This article analysises narrative structure in Talk Show and aims at presenting the way how narrative elements narrate their purposes.
