The design and manufacture of automobile body welding line usually involves a good deal of work. But it takes comparatively short engineering periods. In order to improve the standardization degree of welding jig parts as well as their design efficiency and quality, the concept of'Research on the Intellectualized CAD System Knowledge-Based of the Automobile Body Welding Line'is put forward. Its target is to develop an intellectualized CAD system of the automobile body welding line with self-contained repository, reasonable illation and friendly interface. As a sub-system, the following research on the exploration of welding jig engineering database is carried out in this thesis.i) The key technology and exploration procedure for engineering database of automobile welding jig under the conditions of SQL Server as database platform and UG NX as CAD platform are systematically reviewed.ii) A great amount of existing design data for welding jig is collected. And then it is analyzed, generalized and summarized. On this basis, the characteristic parameters and attribute information of part structure are abstracted when the model of the welding jig is parameterized. Then the parametric graphic library of the welding jig is constructed.iii) The welding jig engineering database consisted of graphic library and database is put forward and established. On one hand, graphic library saves the graphic files of parts. On the other hand, database records the non-geometric information. Database and graphic library are mutually reflected, each record of the former corresponding to each part of the latter.iv) The management system for welding jig engineering database is realized on the UG NX CAD software platform. This system can synchronously manage the database and the graphic library, which functions is as follows: a) Database-safeguarding module. The system, under UG conditions, can directly carry out such operations as addition, cancellation and revision to jig parts in the base. b) Parts-searching module. There are two ways: one is"searching according to the name of parts"and the other is"searching according to the type of parts". c) Assembly function of the part. The system can set the parts searched into the currently designing task as groupwares.Consequently, a case of system application is given by combining the design of welding jig unit HZ200-01-00 of station HZ200 for model BJ-6476 of BEIQI FOTON MOTOR CO., Ltd. The research above arrives at the following conclusions:i) Since the transmitting and processing of data in three-dimensional part base system is a rather complicated process, this paper puts forward the use of second-development tool of UG NX, a method of establishing new parts information database under UG NX conditions with UG/OPEN API and VC database searching means.ii) The paper introduces and constructs a welding jig engineering database, thus achieving synchronous management for database and graphic library. As a common data source for post-system, it lays a good basis for the integration and management of data information.ii) The paper presents a system of automobile welding jig engineering database by making full use of the characteristics of relation database that have powerful functions and can be visited flexibly, thus greatly economizing the development of integrated system.iii) The paper, which constructs automobile welding jig engineering database on the basis of UG NX CAD software platform, constitutes an important part of automobile welding jig CAD system based on knowledge, being partial basis for knowledge base and reasoning machine.
