According to the different values and meanings reflected from the typical characters' behavior, they can be distinguished to the following types: the advanced characters, the heroic characters, the outstanding characters and the ordinary ones.This paper divides the developing course of the report on typical characters into five stages, that is, the maiden period before the establishment of China, the exploring period during the first seventeen years after the establishment of China, the bruising stage during the Cultural Revolution, the prosperous stage in the 90s and the diverse period from then. By settling and analyzing the reports, communication effects and features of every historical stage, this paper summarizes the historical, realistic and aesthetic meanings of the report on typical characters. It pushes history forward by model's powers, some of them even becoming the embodiment of our culture. It is the calling for the missing morality and the navigation for confused people. It guides people to practice sincerity, goodness and goodliness, to perfect themselves and to think about life.However, the report on typical characters has been receded from the 90s, characteristic of reducing numbers, marginal pages and weakened effect. It receded not only because of the changes of social configuration, civilization environment, media zoology and mass psychology, but also because of its defects, such as obsolete content, political themes, inflexible form, formulary representation, lagging time, false details, ideal characters, presentative life, complanate thought, notional spirit and doctrinal logic.Yearly figure choosing through public appraisal is a new type of reporting typical characters, and 'Moving China' is the most prominent representation. Its unique communication conception, rich communication content and original communication method provide the future report on typical characters with good references.From the 21st century, on typical of the city newspaper, the civil newspaper does a good job in the traditional reporting type on typical characters. With the feature of brief, fresh, original, ultimate and so on, the city newspaper coordinates with the Party newspaper, and provides the fatigued model reporting with new blood.
