With the development of technology, radar simulator simplifies the process of the whole radar system debugging. It plays an important role in the electronic warfare and provides a variety of echo signal for analyzing radar performance and improving the skills of radar operator. Therefore, the radar echo simulator is very important to radar systems and it has greatly improved the efficiency in the development of radar.Because of the important role of the radar echo signal simulator, the radar signal simulation technology has developed a significant branch of radar technology. Owing to the signal channel simulator is out of date, this paper designed an FPGA-based simulator for multi-channel array radar with the combination of hardware and software. Simulating a variety of signals and collecting the radar echo signal in real-time have been come true. There are 32-channel data output, which can meet the multi-channel requirements of radar. Its storage capacity is 2 TB, which can satisfy the requirement of large capacity of data storage. The signal rate of transmission can be up to 2.5 Gbps, which meet the requirements of high-speed transmission of data. Therefore, the design has the advantages of many channels, large capacity of data storage and high speed rate of transmission.This paper discusses the overall design scheme and the logical modules’ design method of the simulator in detail. The hardware part includes an interface board and two memory boards. There is a FPGA in each board as the main chip, in which all logic controls of the system are completed. 8 fiber channels achieve the transmission of data with multi-channel, and their rate up to 2.5Gbps. Buffering the actual echo data received from fiber with DDR2, made the data’s high-speed transmission achieved. Using large capacity FLASH chip of MT29F256G08 CJAAA model, made the system design spend less and get better efficiency. The system has 2 parts, interface board communicating with external device and memory boards storing data. This design can provide a variety of external communication interface and more storage space, greatly increasing the versatility of the system.
