The traditional SSR responder has poor performance in its stability and reliability because it is mostly made up of single component and middle or small scaled integrated circuits. It can not meet the requirements of high-density and large amount replies for its limit performance of real time processing ability.For this reasons, this paper advances a new MSSR responder which is based on FPGA and DSP according to the idea of softwear Radio. The merit of this type of hardware systemic architecture is flexible structure, general utility, fit for module design,fast processing and it also can process many respondent signal in real time and develope the ability of MSSR responsion signal processing greatly.This thesis introduces the elementary concept, evolutive history, working flow and operational principle of Secondary Surveillance Radar and the systemic principle of Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar.Then recommend the structrue and elements of Actel'FPGA and the development and design of FPGA based on VHDL.The new responder can detect the video pulse signal upon 100mv and deal with 40 real planes in real time.It also can identify the responding signal of mode A/C and mode 6 and can be swithed freely from one mode to another according to the mode information and transmit the report table of corresponding mode.In this project, the author is responsible for the hardware design of FPGA and debug of hardware and software. This thesis analyzes the digital signal processing algorithm of the responder and its realization in detail. Furthermore, it discusses how to improve the reliability and consistency of the system and how to design the constraint files of place and route.At the present, we have tested this responder system roundly. This system is reliable steady and highly accurate and meet our expectant aim. It can be used the reciever of MSSR.
