The Digital Environment Of The China-us Library Information Resources Comparative Analysis

Library information resource digitization is a premise and condition of the construction of digital library. In recent years, digital library construction is like a raging fire in the world, while library resource digitization is developing quickly. The developed countries (especial the USA) are pacemakers both in research and practice in this field, in contrast the domestic commenced its research and practice a bit later. With more and more libraries digitizing their collections, policy concerns, technology problems and library management surrounding digitization are becoming increasingly paramount. Leading the world level in library science field, USA started its research early on library information resource digitization and achieved great success. The development of library digitization in our nation is still on the stage of initial study and practice and facing many problems unsolved. This paper is focusing on the analysis of library information resource digitization environment, which is namely that, the factors in influencing library information digitization, including policy concerns, management and technology. Through the contrast analysis between China and USA on library information resource digitization environment, we try to prove the applicability and the feasibility in our nation from the successful model of USA, and table a proposal constructing library information resource digitization environment in our country.
