The age of digital television is coming. The digital edit, storage, transport of the television multimedia will be more widely used. The digital technology brings a revolution in the multimedia recording, edit and broadcasting. However, in the age of analog TV and digital TV, the problem of the conversion of multimedia formats always is the focus of attention in fields of data storage and transport. ISO MPEG are series of standards for the formats. Multiplexing and conversion of MPEG-2 are important technology in present broadcasting network.MPEG-2 is a generic standard about motive video and associated audio signal coding, which has been described by Motive Picture Expert Group. The project bases on MPEG-2. After introducing the system, Audio and video of MPEG-2 standard, the article ulteriorly describes the coding rules of MPEG-2 streams, builds the system model based on understanding the streams structure, and makes out a resolving blue print in the multiplexing and converting streams. The article originated some conversion algorithms based on the data flow of multiplexing. It includes de-multiplexing PS, pretreating audio, disposing PS/TS system layer, calculate time information, controling stream output. The project describes the five parts of software system. The software system includes multiplexing from ES to PS/TS and conversion from PS to PS/TS. After tested with a plenty of streams, the system is satisfied in functions and stabilities.Hardware platform of this project is P4 PC with program decoder card of Opitibase Videoplex Plus and transport stream broadcasting card of BlueTop BSTC-12. The debugging devices include a generic QAM, a set of color TV, two set top boxes made by Changhong and Jiuzhou. Software platform is Microsoft windows 2003 Enterprise and Visual C++ 6.0. The test and application confirm that the system model and algorithm both are correct. This system is valuable in commerce.
