Study, Based On Wireless Sensor Networks, Smart Home Applications

Wireless Sensor Network is a new research area of computer science and technology and has a wide application future. Both academia and industries are very interested in it. Sensor network is integration of sensor techniques, nested computation techniques, distributed computation techniques and wireless communication techniques. They can be used for testing, sensing, collecting and processing information of monitored objects and transferring the processed information to users. It is a new kind of information accessing and processing technology.Sensor Networks is the foothold of this paper. Some basic knowledge of sensor networks is introduced in the beginning section, include the sensor network's architecture , characteristic and so on;then the interdependencies of sensor networks and smart home equipments is explained;finally the opinion of the application of sensor networks to smart home is formed and an overall solution of smart home system based on wireless sensor networks is given, Include system's structure, module choice, software/hardware's architecture and network protocol.A hardware development board is designed and it is directed at family gateway, which is the core constituent part of the smart home system. The solution of this hardware development board is: Intel PXA255 chip as host processor, 32MB Flash and 64MB SDRAM, GPRS,USB, I/O and Ethernet interface, and various extendable physical interfaces of smart home network.Then some research on embedded development is done, which is aiming at the objective development board. Research contains the following:1. The implementation of BSP of the objective development board.2. The migration from Linux OS to the objective development board.3. Cross compile's implement.4. The programming of the device drivers under Linux.In the end, a simple prototype system is presented to prove the feasibility of this solution. And existing questions and future developing orientation are put forward.
