With the development of economic, people are looking forward to have a safe, comfortable, energy-saving and convenient living environment. Smart home can be centralized or remote monitoring for family affairs by integrating the computer technology, embedded technology, sensor technology, network communication technology and control technology. Smart Home combines security control subsystem, lighting control subsystem, multi-media entertainment subsystem, network connection and other functions, which meets the pursuit of high quality life in the information age. The development of smart home in Europe and the United States is earlier. Smart home in domestic is still backward and in development stage, the study of the smart home has an important significance.This dissertation first introduces the current study status of smart home system both on abroad and domestic, and then analyzes the lack of current smart home system such as difficulties in wiring system, poor compatibility and mobility, dependence on the PC. It also compares and discusses several communication protocols which can be used in smart home. Finally, it presents a smart home system solution which is based on embeded technology and uses ZigBee+WIFI as internal device communication protocol. The program features are:1) The system uses wireless transmission between the handheld smart home system controller and various functional sub-modules, which can avoid the problems of mobility and wiring difficulties of traditional smart home system that is based on cable transmission2) The transmission way that integrates the advantages of ZigBee and WIFI is a very good way to meet the demand for information transmission between internal modules.3) The system is designed by embeded technology, which gets rid of dependence on PC and have greater improvements on energy consumption, cost control and construction etc.By analysis the characteristics and functions of smart home, this dissertation designs the system architecture, which contains a handhled smart home system controller and several functional modules and uses ZigBee+WIFI as internal transmission way.The platform uses S3C2410 as the master chip for the handheld smart home system controller and functional modules. Meanwhile, this dissertation also builds a embedded software platform, including U-boot, Linux kernel, file system, embedded Web server and device drivers. At last, this dissertation does a test for the whole system and gets the design goals.
