In this paper, PROFIBUS-DP field bus and Industry Ethernet are our research objects. The stability and rate in each communication mode are tested for comparison. Meanwhile, research about the relationship between scan circle of programmable logic controller and communication performance has been put up. I have developed one test software in C++ language. The software can create instruction and send it to PLC automatically. After receiving the confirm information from PLC, the software can get the communication circle and write the value to one log file. Then, the analysis software which is developed by ourselves can deal with the log file. Through the comparison, we found that PROFIBUS-DP communication is faster than Industry Ethernet in Siemens's products. In our test platform, the stability of Industry Ethernet is better than the stability of PROFBUS-DP, but the stability of PROFIBUS-DP is enhanced if the communication rate increases. We put the conclusion into one project. In the project, the design of control system is based upon the conclusion. Furthermore, we have developed the WES(warehouse execute system) . Running successfully proves the value of our comparison research. During the research, we found one method that could gain the average scan circle of PLC. The paper draws a conclusion that includes the merits and defaults in stability and rate between PROFIBUS-DP and Industry Ethernet. The conclusion is very important to the developing direction of field bus protocol. The development way is helpful to other designers as developing automatic warehouse.
