The IEEE 1394a-2000 structure and communicating protocol is discussed in this dissertation. IEEE 1394 bus possesses of many advantages such as upgradeability, expandability, Plug and Play, Ease-of-Use, low cost and high speed. Compared with the USB, the IEEE 1394 bus eliminates the bottleneck between a host processor and the EMS memory, and supports a date rate of 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps and 400 Mbps. Because of its' high speed and ability of host-independent, the 1394 bus becomes the preferred choice in this design. In this dissertation the blue print of the key circuit designing and the driver are given by using the microcontroller XA-G37 and the TSB43AA82A, which is a high performance 1394 integrated PHY and link layer controller. This design shall provide the high-speed serial interface for the connecting of computer and some other standard video equipment within 4.5 meters, reaching a date rate of 400 Mbps.
