The three basics of modern information technology are sensor technology, communication technology and computer technology, which can achieve the information's collection, transmission and processing respectively. Computer and communication technology compose computer network technology. Meanwhile computer and sensor technology compose smart sensor technology, which gives the sensors abilities of processing data. Alone with the advent of network era and the requirement of informatization, the combination of computer network technology and smart sensor technology becomes tighter, and consequently the development of smart sensor network technology grows faster. Thereinto, based on the IEEE 1451 standard, smart sensor network technology will be an important trend in this field. In this paper, according with the IEEE 1451 standard, the STIM interface of smart sensor network is mainly studied and implemented.This paper briefly introduces the present of smart sensor network technology and IEEE 1451 series standards that is proposed by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) for standardization of smart sensor network interface. It compares and analyzes the structures of traditional sensor network and smart sensor network which is based on the IEEE 1451 standard, proposes the design options of STIM interface and selects the 2410II system, with the core of 32-bit embedded processor S3C2410 and produced by the company of Shenzhen Yuanfeng, as the NCAP hardware platform. This paper takes the hard platform as the basis, encloses the component structure of smart sensor network and implements the ten-line TII interface and rock-bottom TII driver according with IEEE 1451.2 standard. Moreover, it realizes the basic function interfaces of transmitter communication according with Block class in IEEE 1451.1 standard, and complements the standard functions according to the STIM parameter configuration. Finally, by connecting the development platform with the wireless RF chip CC2420, it designs and implements a simple STIM wireless interface based on the IEEE 1451.5 standard.This task realizes the sensors self-test and self-configuration by studying and implementing the STIM interface based on the smart sensor network structure.
