The background of this project is to develop a PDM system that fits for research institute center of manufacturing companies. Summarizing the present problems of PDM, we decide to develop a Web-based PDM system. The thesis puts the stress of study as follows:1. Review the evolution of PDM methodology, including: the history of the PDM methodology, several development stage of PDM methodology and the development trend of PDM technology. Also, a number of currently available PDM systems that have embraced web-technologies are reviewed and the benefits of web-based PDM are presented.2. Design and analyze the functionalities of the WebPDM system. Classify the functionalities into six UoF (Unit of functionality) and detailly analyze UoF through use case via UML.3. Design the system scheme, framework, deployment for the WebPDM systems. Propose and present the design principles, three-tier logic design pattern, system running architecture, deployment plans for the system.4. Model the business logic tier of the WebPDM system using the object-oriented approach and the UML diagram and divide the modeling into several packages to express the classes and classes'hierarchy in every package. In two, three chapter, before analyzing and modeling, analyze the UoF and propose the modeling strategy.5. Design the security of the WebPDM system. After discussing the usage scenarios for the WebPDM, propose a workplace-oriented information sharing model. In this model, user management and two main classical access control methods, workplace-oriented access control and data-oriented access control, are analyzed and adapted to application in order to ensure the security of the system.Lastly, security implementing will be proposed.6. Design and implement the database of the WebPDM system. After introducing several principles about mapping object properties to the relational database, an example to show how to implement mapping object properties to the relational database will be given. Lastly, several main objects' diagrams in database are presented.7. Implement the business logic assembly and show the methods of implementation. Implement the application tier of the product data organization management and give some runtime examples to show.
