The size of the software production become larger and larger alone with the fast progress of the information technology, and the competition become much fiercer between the FT Company. However, most company can not complete the project on time and the develop efficiency is very low.Recently, Concurrent Engineering (CE) is a hot study field in manufacture automation industry; it is a systematic technology that design production in a compositive and concurrent way. It can greatly improve the efficiency and quality of production exploitation. Borrowing the thoughts of Concurrent Engineering in manufacture automation industry, just like software community borrowing prototyping idea from that industry years ago, the research on Concurrent Engineering in software development which is called Software Concurrent Engineering (SCE) is originated. The CE approach to software development is argued and the procedure, key elements and application levels for carrying out SCE are presented in this paper. Two kinds of different level concurrency in software life cycle are discussed. A Petri Nets-based software progress model that supporting Software Concurrent Engineering is proposed. Therefore, the bases to control, analyze, evaluate and optimize the software processes in software concurrent engineering are established.
