| Presently in the library science research, the more is still qualitative research, the ordinary descriptive researches are more than accurate analyses, and the stratification is still low; quantitative researches centralize bibliography and citation analysis and bibliometrics and so on; the documental information service is just on kinds of information carriers, studying less on its specific contents, so the stratification of service is lower; the exploitation of network information resources and utilization degree is also lower. In order to improve this state the paper discusses about some related problems of transplanting content analysis method into library science research in theory, method as well as applying.Content analysis is the information analysis method in the field of mass communication and the method that does objective and systematic quantitative research on document contents. It is not only a way of information collecting, but also a complete research. By a series of operating methods of system standard, this method transforms non-quantitative documental information to quantitative data, and combines qualitative analysis with quantitative analysis to reveal the hidden information in documents, making information research set more objective and show striking effects in the fields of mass communication, politics, military, business and so on. Content analysis is closely related with library science and information science in both theory and practice. It can provide an effective scientific method for library research, achieve a profounder and accuracy recognition to the library science, enrich the methods of library science research, and improve the service quality of library work .The paper includes six parts.First, foreword. It introduces this paper's research purpose scopes, the former people's work and knowledge blank of the related fields, and it also generally introduces the general concepts and actual effects of content analysis. The paper introduces the present state of applying content analysis in library science at home and abroad, and thinks that in our country there is much more research spaceabout applying content analysis in library science, and it briefly the research sense.Second, the basic theory of content analysis. It expounds the developing courses, characteristic and advantages of content analysis. The paper thinks content analysis is quantitative, more objective and systematic analysis method, possesses advantages of structural research, non-contact research, semi-quantitative research, combined by quantity and quality, can reveal the hidden information of documents, is more economical analysis method.Third, content analysis research connects with library science, information science and so on. It introduces the relation between content analysis and some related question of library science, information science and book-review science. Content analysis and document classification must follow the logical rules of classification, but the classification of contents from micro-degree; it is good for getting competitive information by content analysis; it is good for strengthening the reliability and accuracy of book review and improving review value and academic value.Forth, content analysis method is used in the study of library science. It expounds the proof and necessity of the use and presents emphatically, the steps of the use and the main use in the study of library science. The article says that the philosophy basis of the use is the quality view of Marxism.
