A design method of the dielectric-covered slots arrays in the narrow face of a rectangular wave-guide is presented in this paper. The method gives design equations by the reciprocity theorem and the equivalent circuits of slot, based on the single-slot admittance and slot-scatter theory, including both external and internal mutual coupling between slots. The expressions of external and internal coupling were derived from the reciprocity theorem by analysing slot voltage distribution in this paper, which invoked magnetic current to slots.The presence of dielectric cover has a great effect on the characteristics of the individual slot and the mutual coupling, so, the performance of the elements has to be taken into account carefully. In this paper, equivalent dielectric constant, which is obtained on the functions of Complex Variables, is applied to deal with dielectric effect on slots.In addition, the earlier slot electric field of sinusoid, which invoked an equivalent array of loaded dipoles to model the slot, has been abandoned. In the paper, the equiphase and cosinusoidal slot electric field is used.Finally, a slot array has been designed with the method presented in this paper, it was compared to available experiment data for verification purposes . The results proved that the method is valid.
