Waveguide slot array antenna has the obvious characteristics of compact structure,light weight,power capacity and high efficiency. At the same time, because of thedistribution on the aperture of the waveguide slot array antenna can be controlled easily,it can realize the narrow beam, low side lobe and ultra-low side lobe easily. So it has theadvantage that the other antennas can not be replaced in missile, Airborne Fire-ControlRadar, Satellite Communications and so on. The traveling-wave waveguide slot antennahas been studied from the following aspects in this article:Firstly, the basic principle is introduced, and the non-resonant array is discussed indetail. Then we analyze the waveguide slot array antennas with the methods oftraveling-wave approximation and equivalent circuits.Secondly, on the basis of the theory, two kinds of non-resonant waveguide slotarray antennas have been designed. As the element of one-dimensional scanning phasedarray antenna, the first kind antenna is the narrow wall waveguide slot array, which hasthe characteristics of narrow beam and low side lobe on the horizontal. The otherantenna is wide wall waveguide slot antenna. It has the characteristics of narrow beamand low side lobe on the horizontal, and the pattern on vertical is adjusted by the cornerreflectors. Through optimization, the two antennas are both obtain a good performance.Then, the error of designing the two waveguide slot antennas is analyzed. Withinthe error range in the processing, the antenna side lobe and VSWR become worse.However,it can still meet the indicator well, which shows that the antenna has goodstability.At last,the radome which can affect the antenna performance is analyzed.
