| In this paper, the application of embedded system in the industrial field of measure and control is discussed, from the basic theory of embedded system to characteristic and instance of application. After analyzing the theory of fault diagnosis in brief, the solution of smart handheld device is brought forward based on embedded system. At the same time, the feasibility of embedded operating system is analyzed.First of all, the general situation of embedded system is discussed, and then the basic theory and characteristic of modern fault diagnosis are introduced in brief. According to microprocessor, real-time operating system (RTOS), graph user interface (GUI) and the development of applications, the basic theory and characteristic of embedded system are introduced as well. On base of above work, the summarized application and performance of Windows CE, as well as the application in real-time embedded system are described in the paper. The software development of one instance based on Microsoft Windows CE is expatiated, included the method to customize the embedded operating system-Windows CE and the highlight of software application. Embedded Linux operating system and other operating system are also described, as well, which have been get widely used more and more. At last, after comprehensive analysis and comparison, the basic theory of embedded system is imported to dynamic signal processing, the end solution of PDM2000 Data Collector/Analyzer is brought out, based on embedded DSP system. At the same time, the solution of file system is introduced. There are some values of reference in practical application.As the focused issue currently, embedded system has made great progress in the field of automation especially in signal collection, analysis and processing. Therefore, It is important to make thoroughly research, in particular, oriented the application of the field of measure and control.
