On The New Era Typical Coverage Of Social Functions And Operations

Reports on typical characters are not only a traditional and important way of propaganda, but also a characteristic of journalism of our Party. It publicizes stories of typical characters to spread experiences, raise the rightful and kick off the wicked. In this way, the people can be educated and motivated. After the Third Plenary Session of the llth Central Committee of our Party, our country has entered a new period of reforming and opening, and a world-shaking change has taken place in our social life. Especially after the system of socialistic market economy was established, policies were re-selected, systems were re-constructed, the people's value concept changed more deeply. So in the new situation, reports on typical characters have to be faced with a new problem, which is how to make this report method more acceptable to encouraging, promoting the mass and accelerating the construction of the Two Civilizations.Therefore, this kind of reports has played an influential role in the revolution and construction of our socialism. What this article is going to discuss is the social functions and the operation of reports on typical characters in the new age. There are three parts in this paper.In the first chapter, the author reviews the history of reports on typical characters briefly, limits and sets forth "the new age", the differences from the typical characters in news and literature, and reports on typical characters. The author also analyzes the relationship and distinguishment between reports on typical characters in the new age and the old one. It is emphasized that we must avoid some mistakes in this report form to play a full role in reports on typical characters as well.The second chapter summarizes three main social functions of reports on typical characters in the new age: the transportation of news and information, the orientation of public opinion and the socialization. The transportation of news and information is the primary function of reports on typical characters. The other functions must take the news and information as carrier for they all derive from the transportation of news and information. The function of orientation of public opinion and the socialization is the mightiness and also the destination of the reports on typical characters. It aims at realizing thought, value, culture and behaviour guiding, when the people are enlightened and educated or cautioned from the typical characters.The third chapter is the emphasis of this article. It is emphasized that in order to make the report excellent, we must obey the regulation of journalism strictly, especially make it truthful, efficient, and popular in readers. Moreover, on the basis of materialism and dialectic, we will report the typical characters in a quite real way. Finally, in a report, the character should be described in a just attitude, and in this way the characters will not be harmed as before and nowadays unconsciously.
