A Study In China On The Unreliablity Of Depiction In Typical Character's Report Of New Period

The typical character's report is a crucial part of Journalism in China. It is undeniable that the typical character's report is started at the top only to work down after the 1970s. From the results of the investigation which founded by Xinhua News Agency in 2004, some readers all around China questioned the reliability of the typical character's report.In this study, focusing on texts of typical character's report of new period, we differentiate "narrator" and "implied writer". Based on the theory of the reliability of the narrator, similarities and differences of values between the narrator and the implied writer determine the unreliability of depiction. There are three types of the unreliability of depiction in typical character's report, including reporting unreliable events, explaining unreliable feelings, and evaluating unreliable moral rules of typical characters.The focal point of this study is causes of the unreliability of depiction in typical character's report of new period. For the texts, images of objects in report contrast with the images in reality. Moreover, from the theory of visual angle of depiction, the visual angle of omniscience and the improper transforms of visual angles of depiction also bring about the unreliability of depiction. For the social environment, the stereotype of typical characters, mass culture and postmodernism, environment of media and multivariate readers are obstructing the realization of reliability of depiction.However, this study is by no means a negation of typical character's report. The ultimate object of making an assay on the unreliability of depiction is for practice.
