Workflow-based Document Management System Research And Development

The paper describes the application of the DMS based on workflow technology. According to a real DMS of Liaoning Province' s Science and Technology Bureau, the workflow technology, the database system theory, BPR methods and the web technology are applied. Also a document workflow system based on web is presented, which includes three works: (1) process definition of document workflow; (2) the dynamic management and real-time control of the document process; (3) the implementation based on web.The process definition of document workflow is also the modeling of document management. The document process model, the organization model and the methods of status control of workflow, which are applied to append new function of the system, are introduced.Document workflow operation, through which document process management and control are applied, includes four steps: (1) making real instances of document process model; (2) inspecting task tables; (3) operating tasks and handling abnormal instances; (4) dynamic modifying document process.The implementation of system is based on a integrate method of implementing document workflow system on web. Furthermore, the real system, which is set up on the three-layer structure, is built on the method. In the system, document management modeling and operation control are implemented. Also, the aim of dynamic management of document process and system needs is achieved.
