Diode-pumped(LD) all-solid-state ultra-violet lasers have become a central of focus in the field of lasers due to their many advantages such as high efficiency, compactness, high stability, and long lifetime. They are widely used in the field of industry, scientific research, medical treatment, military etc. This dissertation presents results of theoretical and experimental researches on lasers based on LD pumped Nd:YVC>4 ultraviolet laser by the extracavity frequency conversion. The contents can be outlined as follows:1. The history and development of diode-pumped solid-state ultraviolet lasers are reviewed, the characteristics and various laser materials used in diode pumped solid-state (DPSL ) are described, and the main approaches and new results of ultra-violet lasers with diode-pumped at present are summarized.2. A theoretical analysis and numerical simulating method considering pumping beam waist, cavity parameters are presented. Combine with the theoretical analysis and the request of fundamental wave, the cavity is optimized to achieve the highest output power of 1064nm.3. Based on the principle of phase-match and the optics characters of KTP, high output peak power, narrow pulse-width green laser and high single pass frequency doubling efficiency (infrared -to-green) is obtained by a A-O Q-switched DPSL laser. The experiment result is the best of all reports of China in the fields of extracavity frequency conversion.4. The characteristics of some new-style UV crystals are described. Combining the speciality of BBO and based on the good output Quasi-continue green laser, we received the result of 198mW. It is the highest power of extracavityfourth-harmonic-generation(FHG).5. After introduce the theory of sum-frequency, we obtained the result of 31 Om W by extracavity frequency tripling with a BBO crystal which is the highest average output power of extracavity frequency conversion and the highest frequency conversion efficiency of IR-UV in THG at home. Based on that work, we analysis the possibility technique scheme of extracavity fifth-harmonic-generation(FifHG).
