LD end-pumped solid-state lasers,with their advantages of high efficiency,well mode matched,compactness,long lifetime and so on,have been developing quickly and becoming one of the most important fields for the laser research.Nd:YAP crystal not only possesses high thermal conductivity and optomechanical coefficient,but also owns large stimulated emission cross section for the 4F3/2-4I13/2transition and output linearly polarized,which show that Nd:YAP crystal is an excellent laser materials for 1.3μm laser and its frequency conversion.Up to now,the LD end-pumped Nd:YAP laser has still seldom been reported.In this paper,LD end-pumped Nd:YAP laser and its intra-cavity frequency-doubling were studied.In this paper,firstly,the development and research interesting for LD pumped solid-state lasers,as well as the progressing history and current situation of Nd:YAP laser is summarized.Secondly,several widely used laser crystals and the thermal effects of LD end-pumped laser crystals are theoretically analyzed.The thermal focal lengths of the Nd:YAP crystal was measured.Thirdly,the influences of the cavity mode on the output power for both plane-plane and plano-concave resonator are analyzed.The output results of the laser with different coupler transmission were compared,and the maximum output power of 3.15W laser radiation at 1341.4 nm was obtained.The comparisons between Nd:YAP and Nd:YVO4 radiating at the 1.3μm and 1μm waveband were made.The LBO was chosen as the nonlinear crystal for the intracavity doubling of Nd:YAP laser experiment.431 mW red light at 670.7 nm was achieved.Lastly,THz radiation based on laser technology,as one of the current study focus was presented and the recently progress was introduced.The properties of several important mid-infrared nonlinear optical crystal used for generating THz have been compared in detail.Finally,the basic condition of nonlinear optical crystal for generating higher conversion efficiency and energy output in THz radiation is presented.
