National handicraft is an important part of the intangible cultural heritage, they often have complex free curve and surface. Imitation of excellent handicraf is difficult. The ancient handicrafs are only preserved in the museum and ornamental, so this can not play its market value. With the development of the industry, the related theory and technology of reverse engineering and numerical control technology also have great development, therefore, new theory, new technology research on reverse engineering and numerical control machining, and applying to the digital protection and development of national handicraft are effectively solves to the digital protection and development of national handicraftReverse engineering is an effective means of digital preservation of handicraf. CAD model of crafts can be gain by 3D scanning and reverse modeling. Five axis NC machining is an effective way to handicraft manufacturing,Second design of CAD model created by reverse engineering, and manufacture can satisfy different people’s demands, this has a certain market value. Application this method and technology in the tourist handicraft manufacturing can effectively shorten the manufacturing cycle of design of the new product, rapid response to market demand, bring the efficiency to enterprises.This paper study the principle of obtaining the point cloud data of the 3D surface and The method of point cloud data preprocessing. In a "fish swallow" ceramic model as an example, describes the methods of obtainning the point cloud data of free surface model. this paper research on the reverse engineering of curve and surface modeling theory, in-depth study of the theory of NURBS curve and surface fitting point cloud.With the example of the "swallow fish" point cloud data in the Geomagic Studio 10, describes the key technology of reverse modeling of NURBS surfaces from point cloud data. Based on thorough research on the reverse engineering, This paper puts forward the evaluation method of reverse engineering modeling precision and manufacture error detection method of surface based on reverse engineering.Machining of free form surface usually used five axis NC machine tool, because the five axis NC machining has more two rotating shaft than three axis NC machining, so it’s sports is complex. the study and analysis of type and movement of five axis NC machine tools can helps programming NC code better. This paper deeply analyzed the types and the movement of five axis NC machine tools, simply introduces the NC interpolation algorithm, studies the types and the selection of milling cutter, Further analysis of the relationship between the residual height and spacing, and provides a theoretical basis for the estimation of surface machining row spacing and roughness. In the last, as the two-design model for example, based on the software of UG NX8.0 and Vericut, write the NC code of “swallow-fish”model and simulate the code, the conclusion shows that the NC code is correct.To sum up, for surface products, especially national handicraft, using reverse engineering technology, five axis NC machining technology, virtual machining technology, can quickly get the CAD model, redesign and manufacture new products. this is an effective method for the protection of intangible cultural heritage, and this is the effective way to the development of new products. This study enriched the theory and method of reverse modeling and NC machining of free-form surface parts and products.
