Soft power is the main source of national power.National images, considered as a core part of soft power, arevalued by almost all the countries in the world. In the globalization era, regions are becoming more and more connected, factors that influence national images are becoming more and more complex. Global Media Events naturally have global influences, nations’ participation in global media events may lead to positive imagesfrom other countries. However, researchers usually focus on how the west demonize Chinese image, they oppose the east and the west as the starting point of the study. In this dissertation, I abandon this point, choosing Beijing and London Olympics as two global media events. Taking RenMin Daily and The Times as samples and comparing the similarities and differences between the Chinese and British Olympic news, I conclude that, mainstream media in each country will make efforts in depictingtheir own national image through positive reports in media events. As Olympic Games could not get away from the politics, branding global citiesinstead of nations could be a more effective strategy.
