The ultimate goal of an enterprise is to grasp market trends and increase sales profit. For operators, it is required to catch accurate and timely sales information, analyze sales status and then make following decision of the management scientifically. The well-known department store chain-Northern Shopping Center, has a number of stores in Shanghai. In recent years, with the rapid development of informationization, the enterprise has collected huge amount of sales data. But only with the help of simple statistical queries, it helps limited to make business decisions. The valuable information is very difficult to pick up from sales data directly such as sale status of some commodity at different times in different stores, and best sellers at different time in a certain store, as well as the commodity's hot sale period in different stores, etc. How to distill the demanded data from the huge sales data timely and effectively has become a major problem.By discussing the status that Northern Shopping Center lacks analytical tools of sales data, necessity of applying the OLAP technologies into sales analysis is determined. Firstly, the subject of Northern Shopping Center's sales analysis needs to be analyzed. Secondly, cube is established by using the dimensions such as time, store and commodity etc. Upon such basis, sales status in one store at different periods or in different stores at the same period is analyzed by means of slice operation on store and time dimension; daily sales, monthly sales, quarterly sales, product sales, store sales and sales of similar products are analyzed by dicing, drilling up and drilling down the time and commodity dimension. The thesis focuses on how to get sales status and rules of different stores and commodities by using OLAP technologies for analyzing large amount of sales data, which provides the basis to the enterprise operators to allocate the inventory reasonably and make the marketing strategy accordingly.
