EPON as new generation broadband optical access network technology has significant development and wide application,with the user's growing demand of network bandwidth and service variety. EPON is considered as one of the best solutuion for FTTx, because of its simple network structure, low cost equipment, easy management and easy maintenance, etc. However, EPON has a security risk,for its shared optical transmission medium characteristics and downlink broadcast topology.EPON network security becomes very important especially when it is used as access network of high demand for confidentiality.Firstly, the detailed design of 1G EPON cryptosystem to implement 1G EPON network security is introduced.1G EPON cryptosystem, according to the principle of modularization, is divided to optical interface module,serdes module, frame data processing module, control and interface module, the cipher module and power module. frame data processing module is the core module of cryptosystem. Altera's FPGA chip is used to complete the function of frame data processing module, implement EPON frame data encryption and security transmission.And then, Cadence EDA software tools is used to complete circuit schematic design and PCB design of 1G EPON cryptosystem, and many important issues which should be paid more attention to are proposed when PCB is designing.And then, PMC-Sierra's 1G EPON equipments are used to set up a test platform for cryptosystem system. EPON frame data changes are captured and analyzed via FPGA online logic analyzer SignalTap II, and concluded that cryptosystem implement EPON data security transmission. 1G EPON network performance testing concludes that cryptosystem system does not worsen network performance, via cryptosystem dose or does not access 1G EPON network. Finally, the detailed design of higher rate 10G EPON asymmetric cryptosystem and symmetric cryptosystem are given, optical interface module,10G interface conversion module and 10G data processing module are discussed and studied.1G EPON cryptosystem, 10G EPON asymmetric cryptosystem and symmetric cryptosystem can effectively solve the corresponding rate of EPON networks security risks, so as to promote that EPON access network technology is widely used.
