RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) technology is a non-contact automatic identification technology, it uses radio frequency signals to the target for automatic identification and data exchange. In recent years, RFID technology has been widely used in the worldwide and gradually penetrated into our daily lives, including transportation management, intellective traffic, check on work attendance, monitoring of goods, science, medical, and so on. As the most promising field in automatic identification technology trends, RFID market is creating significant business value. Therefore, research on design of passive UHF RFID tag has important theoretical and practical significance, and it also has a bright market prospects. The design of a digital baseband circuit for a UHF Passive RFID Tag is the main content in this dissertation, which is compliant with the ISO/IEC 18000-6B UHF RFID protocol. First, we discussed the development of RFID history, development prospects and its basic working principle. Secondly, the system architecture of digital baseband circuit is analyzed and designed, some low power design approaches are also adopted in the design. The RFID digital baseband circuit has been described in verilog language, verified by the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro XC2VP30 FPGA platform and synthesized by the Synopsys design kit for ASIC flows. Finally, the digital baseband processor is fabricated successfully in TSMC 0.18um CMOS Mixed Signal Process. Test results show that the current of the digital baseband circuit is less than 3μA, and it can support all the mandatory commands and complete the tag inventory, read, write,as well as lock and query_lock operations which are required in ISO/IEC 18000-6B UHF RFID protocol.
