Purpose: According to observing the clinical treatment efficacy, prove the effectiveness and advantage of acupuncture treatment for Vascular Headache.Material and method: Select 60 patients from the outpatients who had been diagnosed as the Vascular Headache and meeting the inclusion criterion of this test. In accordance with the random principle, they were divided into acupuncture group. and control group. There were 30 patients in acupuncture group, including 10 males and 20 females; the youngest was 18 years old and the oldest was 63 years old, average was 41.5 years old; The shortest course of disease was 11 months, and up to 35 years, they accepted the acupuncture treatment. There were 30 patients in control group, including 8 males and 22 females; the youngest was 21 years old, and the oldest was 61 years, average was 40.9 years; the shortest course of disease was 10 months, and up to 37 years; they took oral nimodipine tablets. All the two groups' patients had been treated for 4 weeks. Observed the clinical efficacy and changes in TCM Syndrome and headache syndromes index. Then applied SPSS 13.0 software package for statistical analysis of data.Results:1. Before and after treatment the two groups' Headache index were changed significantly.(P<0.05),headache symptoms were significantly improved. The efficacy was determined by the reduction rate of headache index, the total effective rate of acupuncture group was 89.36%,the total effective rate of control group was 89.22%,inter-group difference was not significant (P>0.05).That showed acupuncture and western medicine treatment can improve the patient's headache quality significantly, and the effective was similar.2. Before and after treatment, two groups' TCM syndrome score were significant changes(P<0.05),compared efficacy of TCM syndrome, acupuncture group was effective 91.45% effective 91.22% control group, no significant difference between the groups(P<0.05). That showed acupuncture and Western medicine can significantly improve patients' TCM syndrome, and the effective was similar.3. After a month of the ending course's following results: compared with the ending of treatment course, the acupuncture group had no significant change in headache index (P<0.05), the control group's headache index rebounded, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).Headache index difference between the two groups showed acupuncture group was higher than the control group (P<0.05). That showed the efficacy of acupuncture treatment of insomnia was stability, and not easy to relapsed, but after the end of treatment of western medicine. Headache index decreased, long-term effect of treatment was not as good as acupuncture.4. Compared the adverse reactions between the two groups, the incidence of adverse reactions of the acupuncture group was lower than the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).That showed the safety of acupuncture therapy is superior to western medicine. Conclusion: Acupuncture and Western medicine treatment all have significant clinical efficacy to the patients of vascular headache. Both of them can significantly improve headache index and headache syndromes in Chinese medicine, the efficacy of them was close; but acupuncture treatment was better in long-term effects than western medicine, and adverse reaction was less.
