Medical science is a scientific system, involving a high integration of natural sciences and humanities and social sciences. It requires that health care professionals own not only solid medical knowledge, but also high humanistic qualities. Medical students are the key force of future medical research and clinical work. Social progress demands that medical students not only should grasp exquisite professional techniques, but also should learn to analyze issues from medical, social, moral and ethical perspectives, to rear noble medical ethics which is people-oriented and patients-centered. In a time when humanistic spirits are highlighted, the"products"of higher medical education should be the well-developed persons with both humanistic qualities and scientific knowledge. In the long past, medical education in our country pay too much emphasis on technical aspects of medical science, ignoring the humanistic nature of medical science. This leads to unreasonable knowledge structure and lack of humanistic spirits in our medical students. So, strengthening medical students'humanistic qualities education, amalgamating professional education and humanistic education, rearing good humanistic qualities, humanistic culture and humanistic spirits, heightening the ability and level of humanistic care, and forming good humanistic spirits style, are the essential constituents of constructing harmonious hospitals and harmonious society. Therefore, to choose medical students'humanistic qualities as the study topic has important theoretical and practical implications in the sense that it can heighten the level of medical technology and health care, which has the tenet of taking care of life and health and reducing illnesses.This thesis, guided by Marxism, borrowed and analyzed relevant materials from philosophy, social sciences, medical sciences and pedagogy. It utilizes many research methods such as literature analysis, questionnaire, and Spss10.0 software statistic methods. The research focuses on some issues related to humanistic qualities education for our country's medical students.The thesis is composed of three parts. The first part is about the values of medical student's humanistic qualities education in our era. Humanism is a humanitarianism thought with the respect of human being and care of life. Humanistic qualities are relatively stable inner qualities formed by internalizing humanistic knowledge and humanistic spirits. Humanistic qualities education involves a process of internalizing human excellent cultural products by teaching, edification and practicing into personality, temperament and culture, making them relatively stable inner qualities, thus founding cultural basis and aesthetic basis for political and value choice. Medical science has a double nature of both humanistic and natural sciences. For the students in medical universities, strengthening humanistic qualities education becomes a very important thing. Medical student's humanistic qualities education is a necessary requisite of modern high education development. It is an inherent requirement of modern medical models and medical development, and it is also a demand of medical and health care profession.The second part mainly analyses the status quo of humanistic qualities of the current Chinese medical students. First, it analyses the core, methods and standards of assessment of humanistic qualities education in our current medical universities. They are: Marxist theory and ideological education is the core, teaching by professional staff in the class is the main educational method, and theoretical examination is the main standard of assessment. Second, it points out that the following areas need to be improved: lack of ideas of humanistic qualities education, weakness in the content of humanistic qualities education, singleness of methods of humanistic qualities education. Third, it analyses the status quo of humanistic qualities of medical students in our country.The third part concerns responses to medical student's humanistic qualities education. They are the answers to the problems and status quo. The first is to update ideas, to build up an ecological observation in which sciences and humanistic qualities develop in harmony. Propaganda should be carried out to make every staff and student, including instructors in teaching hospitals and practice bases, understand the importance of humanistic qualities education in higher medical education, making the ideas rooted in heart, teaching, systems and entire medical education. The second thing is to integrate resources and enrich connotation of humanistic qualities education. Medical humanities should be incorporated into the knowledge system of whole medical education. Relevant resources should be integrated, forming a new educational system which pays equal emphasis on both medical professional basis and medical humanistic basis. The third is to construct a platform, optimizing panorama instruments of humanistic qualities education. On the one hand, the status of humanistic qualities education should be given prominence. It should run through the whole training process. On the other hand, the education function of campus culture should be highlighted. Everyone should be involved in training process, trying best to construct panorama system of humanistic qualities education.
